    Gas-saving caveat is not idle chatter
    Does a vehicle use more gasoline in starting the engine than it uses in idling for, say, five to 10 minutes? The reason for the question comes from “discussions” with my wife about why I leave the car running when I run into the local 7-Eleven.

    JBA Performance Center in Kearny Mesa works on vintage Dodge Challengers and has a performance package for the new model.

  • Ford will offer hatchback Fiesta
    Ford Motor Co. has added a hatchback version of the Fiesta to the 2010 North American launch of the small economy car. The hatchback will be sold alongside the sedan. It's not clear whether the hatchback Fiesta will be a three-door, a five-door or come in both configurations.

    All-new Mazda6 has starting price of $19,220
    Mazda North American Operations has priced the four-cylinder version of its new 2009 Mazda6 at $19,220. A V-6 version will start at $24,800. Both prices include shipping. The car will be in dealers by late August, Mazda said.

    Today's engines don't need a warm-up – even in cold temperatures. Start the car immediately and gently drive away.

  • GE jumps aboard plug-in bandwagon
    WASHINGTON – Plug-in hybrid vehicles were the turf of geeky do-it-yourselfers just a few years ago. Now, General Electric wants in on the action. GE is teaming with Chrysler LLC to demonstrate technology called a dual-battery energy storage system.

    WASHINGTON – Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. is offering to replace the rear hatch struts on nearly 200,000 Toyota Sienna minivans because the struts may deteriorate and allow the liftgate to drop unexpectedly.
