    Here's the skinny: Trans fat's days are numbered at California restaurants. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed legislation yesterday banning the artery-clogging substance in the state's restaurants starting in 2010 and from all baked goods by 2011.

      SACRAMENTO – Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says he must temporarily cut the pay of 200,000 state workers to prevent a state cash crisis, but some believe it is a political move to pressure the Legislature to enact an overdue budget.

          Local Green Beret gave his life to save a buddy

          STAFF WRITER

          An Army Green Beret from Imperial Beach died because he chose to save a comrade from drowning last month in Afghanistan, the surviving soldier said. Sgt. James Treber and two other soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group drowned June 29 when the road under their heavily armored truck collapsed, causing the vehicle to roll into a canal.
