The San Diego Union-Tribune

The thrills are alive with the sound of music

July 24, 2008

Expect an array of music at tonight's “Video Games Live.”

Here are five of the sources:

“Super Mario Bros.”: Having sold more than 40 million copies, it's the most popular video game and its honky-tonk-style music is a model of peppiness.

“Sonic the Hedgehog”: The fearless critter inspires enough snappy melodies and rhythms to get just about any gamer in the mood for adventure.

“The Legend of Zelda”: Heavy on action and fantasy, the game rousingly combines renaissance and rock influences.

“Halo”: The science-fiction series has a theme that's like medieval plainchant on steroids.

“Final Fantasy”: Classy and classically based, the scoring often reveals the sophisticated side of video game music.
