The San Diego Union-Tribune

Tournament at a glance

January 26, 2008

QUOTABLE

“I think he might be going up.”

– Tiger Woods on the world ranking of Kevin Streelman, who was 1,114th going into the week.

BIRDIE

Kevin Streelman, meet Tiger Woods (at right). Soak up this day for all it's worth. You never know if you'll be in this spot again.

BOGEY

The only bogey of the day for Woods. By taking a four-shot lead heading into the weekend, he's managed to make this Buick the most anticlimactic in years. Only Mother Nature can slow him now.

TOURNAMENT AT A GLANCE

Thursday

Once again, the South proved the more formidable of Torrey Pines' two courses, with only two of the top 12 scorers playing the longer South. Those two, however, merit interest: Troy Matteson, who leads with a 65, and five-time Buick champ Tiger Woods, two strokes back.

Yesterday

The skies were clear as Woods blitzed the easier North Course, shooting 7-under 65 to get to 12-under, matching his best start in the Buick Invitational. First-day leader Matteson went from a 65 Thursday to a 75, and dropped to 4-under, tied for ninth.

Today: Round 3

8:30 a.m., South Course

Tomorrow: Round 4

8:30 a.m., South Course

PARKING

General parking is available at two locations, the Sun Runner parking lot near SeaWorld (located off Interstate 5 at Sea World Drive and Pacific Coast Highway) and Qualcomm Stadium. Fans may take the regularly scheduled shuttles all day from these locations to the Torrey Pines courses, beginning at 7 a.m. (and from 5 a.m. tomorrow at Qualcomm). Cost for parking (which includes round-trip shuttle use) is $15 per vehicle at Sun Runner. Parking at Qualcomm (including shuttle use) is free. Note: A parking location at the Del Mar Showpark, which has been used for several years, has been closed because of rains and will remain closed through the tournament.

TICKETS

Daily general admission at the gate is: $30 today-tomorrow; $20 for seniors any day. Admission free for boys or girls 12 or under when accompanied by an adult.
