MISSION VALLEY: Students and their families can learn how to obtain state grants for college during a workshop this morning at the Scottish Rite Center in Mission Valley.
Cal Grants are available to low-and middle-income Californians and cover tuition and fees at California's public colleges and universities. Some grants also pay for textbooks and living expenses.
Students pursuing a career or technical education can receive up to $576 a year for books, tuition and equipment and up to $2,592 for tuition and fees for those who go to a school other than a California community college.
Today's workshop is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon. The Scottish Rite Center is at 1895 Camino del Rio South.
Students must have financial need and at least a 2.0 grade-point average, and they must apply by March 2, in addition to meeting other requirements. Cal Grants for career or technical education have no minimum GPA requirement.
Meetings continue locally throughout the county next month.
