Parents should do some homework before introducing their kids to music lessons

Young children love music, as anyone with a passing acquaintance with a 4-year-old knows. Getting that early interest to translate into real musical ability is tougher, though; most school districts don't start instrumental programs until fifth grade at the earliest.
Withholding judgment on 'Kid Nation'
“No parents, no teachers anywhere. It's the first Kid Nation,” says the narrator during an online preview of the CBS show by the same name. The new CBS reality show, which premières Wednesday, features 40 kids, ages 81/2 to 15, living in a New Mexico ghost town for 40 days.
