Marvin and Helen Stewart met at a dance event for teens at the old Mission Beach Ballroom – today the site of Belmont Park – and haven't stopped dancing since. Below, the couple in 1937. The Stewarts will celebrate their 70th anniversary Tuesday.
What's Inside

Still strong at 70 years

Married Feb. 27, 1937, dancing enthusiasts Marvin and Helen Stewart have stayed committed working and playing together

In an era when the search for love can leave singles at the mercy of online matchmakers or involve schizophrenic nights of speed dating, there is still nothing as effective at greasing the wheels of romance as a spin on the dance floor. Just ask Marvin Stewart.

Three siblings married within four days share six times the joy

The three newlywed couples kiss as flashbulbs flicker and video cameras roll in the packed living room of the modest Torres home on a quiet little side street in El Cajon. Clearly the pairs are in love. Someone in the crowd, part of the 150 or more adults and kids who have wedged into the tiny digs and have come from as far away as Mexico City, playfully yells: “Get a room.”
