BREATHE EASIER

A fish-oil supplement a day may help keep asthma at bay. When Indiana University researchers gave 16 people with exercise-induced asthma fish-oil capsules or a placebo daily for three weeks, the capsule-popping treadmill runners showed a 64 percent improvement in lung function. It's believed the healthy fats in fish oil may reduce inflammation in the airways.

WEIGHT AND LOOKS

Are we more tolerant or just more politically correct? When a recent Gallup poll asked 1,900 Americans if they thought a slim person was “a lot more attractive” than an overweight one, one in four agreed. That's compared to one in two in 1985. Thin is still in, however. The number of people who said they wanted to lose at least 20 pounds rose to 61 percent from 54 percent
