ESCONDIDO – A woman's badly decomposed body was found in the garage of a North County home Sunday night and sheriff's deputies are investigating the death as a homicide.
The body, which was wrapped in a blanket, was found just after 8 p.m. at the house on Rockhoff Road off Nutmeg Street by an Animal Control officer called there by neighbors concerned about her pets, said sheriff's Lt. Dennis Brugos.
“The officer thought she smelled a decomposing body,” Brugos said.
Deputies arrived about 8:40 p.m. They found the body in the cluttered garage, which was stacked high with boxes and furniture.
“We're treating this as a homicide,” Brugos said. “This was not an accident, not a natural death.”
Neighbors said a woman lived at the house and she had not been seen for about two weeks. Sheriff's investigators have not identified the victim.

Man from El Centro robbed in El Cajon
EL CAJON – A 19-year-old El Centro man was robbed early yesterday by three young men as he walked to an apartment complex with a friend, police said.
The pair was walking on Mollison Avenue from a store on Greenfield Drive about 12:10 a.m. when they were approached by the three robbers, police said.
The group asked the victim and his friend if they had seen two people walk by recently, police said. They answered that they had not and kept walking.
A few minutes later, the pair was approached again by the same men, who asked if they had a cell phone, police said. The friend didn't answer and kept walking. The victim stopped and told the group he did not have a phone.
Police said he was then ordered to hand over his wallet to one of the robbers, who took out the cash and then tossed the wallet aside.
The trio ran toward Greenfield Drive to a Ford pickup truck and drove away, police said. Police said they were thought to be between 17 and 21 years old.
