Bob Ike's Ready-To-Win List
The following horses had troubled trips or ran noteworthy races (June 7-11) and should be followed in their next couple starts.

BALAVISTA |
June 9 (7th race) |
Hess-trained horse showed that he is much more effective as a late-running sprinter when finishing third after troubled trip. Broke step slowly, trailed early, saved ground on turn and into stretch, then was bothered by drifting out horse through the final 1/16th. Would have won had rider stayed on rail but looks like one to beat next time vs. similar NW2/MC turf sprinters.

COMPANY SECRET |
June 8 (1st race) |
Debuting juvenile filly from Paasch barn was very well-meant but had to settle for second behind talented winner. Sat third from inside, saved all ground, tried hard through the lane, then was actually gaining on winner when rider wrapped up on that one. Short price to graduate in next start.

DEVONS QUEEN |
June 7 (5th race) |
First-time starter from Gallagher barn had trained well into debut but wound up third in modest heat. Veered in at start, raced mid-pack in the clear, made a small 3-wide run on turn, then finished well-beaten third. Look for big improvement from sophomore filly next time vs. similar maiden claimers.

DYNAMATIC |
June 10 (8th race) |
Debuting daughter of Dynaformer from Shirreffs barn finished off the board but has some ability and should be followed. Clipped heels after start, trailed backside and into stretch, then closed ground in the lane before galloping out strongly past the wire. Can only improve with experience and added distance.

RIVER FOX |
June 11 (1st race) |
Three-year-old gelding was making first start for Mullins and probably should have been unsaddled. Trailed early, moved up in 2-path on turn, steadied behind horses at 1/4-pole when rider had every opportunity to get outside, finally angled out and was getting to winner at the wire. Modest heat (part of slow time was due to slow, cuppy nature of track) but can beat similar $16,000 sophomores next time.

SO BEWARNED |
June 11 (6th race) |
First-timer from Headley barn was very well-meant but settled for second in decent maiden event. Broke a half-step slowly, sat behind leaders early, moved up to press pace from outside, proved no match for winner at top of stretch but was well clear of third horse. Shouldn't be a maiden for long.

THINKING BROADWAY |
June 9 (8th race) |
Gallagher-trained first-timer had worked well into first start but finished third after some minor traffic trouble. Raced joint third from inside, saved ground on turn, was blocked and waited briefly into stretch, then got clear but tired through the final 100 yards. Figures to do better next time in similar Cal-bred spot.

THUNDER GODDESS |
June 10 (8th race) |
Drysdale-trained filly, who exits same race as Dynamatic (above), definitely can run but needs more distance to show her best. Daughter of Thunder Gulch broke very slowly, lacked early foot, saved ground into stretch, cut corner, then angled out and finished solidly before galloping out strongly past wire. Should relish added furlongs when given that chance.
Winner from last week: Getoneforthegipper $4.20.
