FRESHWATER

Barrett: The 168 anglers checked reported 1,805 bass, 585 bluegill, 67 crappie and 1 smallmouth bass.

Chollas: Open daily to youngsters 15 and under. Will be stocked this month with channel catfish, courtesy of Friends of Rollo.

Cuyamaca: Another shot of 1,200 pounds of rainbow trout from Mt. Lassen should make for very good trout fishing this week. Big bass nesting and bass being caught up to 18 pounds. Josh Rodes, Lakeside, 9-4 largemouth bass and 2-0 smallmouth. Mike Swanson, Poway, 9-0 bass, plastic worm, South End. Paul Sharman, Chula Vista, 8-0 bass, 4-inch plastic worm, South End. Eddie Moran, 8, Jamul, 4-0 trout, bait, Dam. Kyle Meaux, Chula Vista, 4-0 trout, Power Bait, Pumphouse Cove. Open daily.

Dixon: Fair action for bass, channel catfish and some leftover trout. Night fishing starts June 15. Open daily.

El Capitan: The 255 anglers checked reported 13 bass kept (186 released), 383 bluegill, 43 crappie, 34 blue catfish, 29 channel catfish and 9 carp. Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday to fishing and water contact activities such as water skiing and Jet Skis.

Henshaw: Fishermen reporting fair crappie and good bass fishing. Open daily.

Hodges: The 356 anglers checked reported 3 bass kept (120 released), 134 green sunfish, 92 bluegill and 15 channel catfish. Frank Bales, La Mesa, 10 crappie, 13.0 with a 2.00, Hernandez Cove. Open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

Jennings: New fishing areas of Eggert Point and Shadow Cove producing good numbers of bass, channel catfish and trout. Night fishing starts Friday, with the lake open every Friday and Saturday for night fishing. Lake opens at 5 p.m. Friday; 5:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Loveland: The 118 anglers reported 1 bass kept (77 bass released), 108 bluegill, 10 channel catfish, 8 crappie, 4 bullhead catfish. Roy Hogate, Alpine, 12-6 bass, “Original Big Toad Lure,” North Bank. Open daily.

Miramar: The 131 anglers checked reported 3 bass kept (25 bass released), 34 channel catfish and 6 rainbow trout. Open Saturday through Tuesday.

Morena: Trout fishing kicked back in last week with several limits of rainbows reported. Stephen Dorris, Pacific Beach, limit of trout with a 3-8, Power Bait and night crawlers near drop-offs. Big bass bedding here, too, as spawning happening at the backcountry lakes. Bluegill, catfish and crappie also biting. Ron Haycook, Alpine, 22 bluegill and 2 crappie, mini-jigs. Anthony Cazares, Alpine, 6-8 channel catfish, mini-jig. Jim Price, limit of channel catfish, night crawlers, Morena Creek. Open daily.

Murray: The 255 anglers checked reported 21 bass kept (50 bass released), 143 bluegill, 3 rainbow trout, 3 channel catfish and 1 redear sunfish. Six bass reported over 6 pounds. Joe Chiba, San Diego, 10.90 bass (released), swimbait, Cast Cove. David Matsumoto, Clairemont, 8.85 bass (released), crankbait, East of Dock. Launch ramp for private boats and fishing float closed due to low water. Rental boats available. Open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday for boating and fishing; open daily for shore fishing.

Otay, Lower: The 642 fishermen checked reported 47 bass kept (359 bass released), 3,140 bluegill, 49 channel catfish, 38 crappie and 6 redear sunfish. Ridgely McGhee, James Odem, Dwayne Evy and Damion Purter, San Diego, 142 bluegill and 15 channel catfish, wax worms and mackerel, 29.10 with a 1.05, Harvey Arm. Gary Smith, Compton, 5 channel catfish, 55.68 with a 16.85, mackerel, Harvey Arm. Markette Thomas and James Odem, San Diego, 5 channel catfish, 24.95 total (no big fish given), mackerel, Harvey Arm. Taylor Roberts, 7, Chula Vista, 96 bluegill, with a 1.13-pounder, meal worms, Bushlow Cove. Open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

Otay, Upper: The 31 anglers checked reported 41 bass (all released). Open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

Poway: Trout have moved deeper, and warmwater species like bass, catfish and bluegill providing the best action. Night fishing starts here at the end of June. Open Wednesday through Sunday.

Santee Lakes: Stocked regularly with channel catfish. Fair bass bite on Lakes 4 and 5. Open daily.

San Vicente: The 135 anglers checked reported 18 bass kept (237 released), 146 bluegill, 91 rainbow trout, 65 redear sunfish, 20 crappie and 18 channel catfish. Open Thursday and Friday for fishing and water contact, Saturday and Sunday for water contact only (no Jet Skis).

Sutherland: The 149 anglers checked reported 12 bass kept (203 bass released), 169 crappie, 85 carp, 66 channel catfish and 5 redear sunfish. Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Sweetwater: The 128 anglers checked reported 17 bass (kept), 32 bass released, 5 carp, 2 channel catfish, 2 bluegill, 1 bullhead. Doyal Stracener, San Diego, 15-8 channel catfish, night crawler. Open Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Wohlford: Trout have moved deep and bass and catfish fishing have been slow. Two channel catfish plants due this month, the first being 2,000 pounds on June 14. Hector Castro, Escondido, 6-8 bass, night crawler, Willow Cove. Open daily.

Eastern Sierra: Cold weekend in the Sierra as temperatures dropped into the teens at night, warming into the 50s by day at South Lake. There was rain, snow and wind and cold. Gary Olson reports the road to South Lake, west of Bishop, is open, and the lake is mostly ice-free, with some lingering by the dam. He said the new owners at Parcher's are going to try and put boats out later in the week. Intake II continues to be the hot spot due plants of big trout by Alpers and the DFG. Claudio Seraffi, Varese, Italy, one of the workers working on the dam at Sabrina, 7-pound rainbow trout, piece of shrimp, Lake Sabrina. Donald Holman, Lancaster, 6-12 Alpers, Intake II, on a Blue Fox spinner. Rob Tysor, Fallbrook, 8-8 trout, grape Power Bait, Lower Twin Lake west of Bridgeport. Garritt Wallace, El Cajon, 6.20-pound rainbow trout, Convict Lake.

Pt. Loma Sportfishing, H&M Landing, Fisherman's Landing: 45 anglers, two 1 1/2-day boats: 85 yellowtail, 3 albacore, 28 bonito. 36 anglers, two one-day boats: 81 yellowtail, 16 bonito. 60 anglers, two three-quarter-day boats: 32 calico bass, 3 barracuda, 251 bonito, 1 lingcod, 7 sculpin. 154 anglers, four half-day boats: 4 calico bass, 1 sand bass, 14 barracuda, 286 bonito, 4 rockfish.

Seaforth: 16 anglers, one full-day boat: 12 calico bass, 60 rockfish, 1 lingcod. 91 anglers, four three-quarter-day boats: 5 yellowtail, 355 bonito, 4 barracuda, 55 calico bass. 126 anglers, two half-day boats: 205 bonito, 16 barracuda, 34 calico bass, 1 sand bass, 11 rockfish, 3 ling cod, 74 mackerel. 12 anglers, one twilight boat: 1 bonito, 1 barracuda, 6 rockfish, 2 ling cod.

Islandia: 72 anglers, two half-day boats: 26 barracuda, 219 bonito, 27 calico bass, 1 halibut, 1 ling cod, 6 rockfish, 1 sculpin. 21 anglers, one twilight boat: 17 barracuda, 15 bonito, 7 rockfish, 4 sand bass. 55 anglers, two three-quarter-day boats: 203 bonito, 26 calico bass, 7 sand bass, 4 sculpin, 3 whitefish. 19 anglers, one overnight boat: 15 barracuda, 78 bonito, 1 ling cod, 90 sculpin, 6 yellowtail.

Oceanside: 18 anglers, one three-quarter-day boat: 87 bonito, 3 yellowtail. 65 anglers, two half-day boats: 3 sand bass, 4 calico bass, 2 rockfish, 3 bonito, 100 barracuda, 1 black seabass (released). 34 anglers, one twilight boat: 4 sand bass, 3 calico bass, 35 sculpin.

Kayak Fishing: Rob Fitzgerald, Encinitas, 37-pound white seabass, off La Jolla, Spanish mackerel.

Top Catches: Kevin Machado, 21, 27-pound halibut, live bait off Point Loma.

East Cape: Big bull dorado to 40 pounds, yellowfin tuna to 45 pounds and good numbers of marlin, but picky biters, according to John Ireland at Rancho Leonero Resort. Roosterfish, mixed with jack crevalle, showing inside, and good pompano action.

Cabo San Lucas: Billfish remain scattered, but most cooperative biters at the 1150 Spot, according to Larry Edwards of Cortez Charters. Fish Cabo had 16 striped marlin releases (plus a wahoo and dorado) in six fishing days.

Free Fishing Day: June 10 is a free fishing day in California, with no license required to fish in the state.
