Know before you go

July 17, 2005

There's a new device that offers a breath of fresh air on airplanes.AirRight is a simple, easy-to-use, in-flight disposable filter that attaches to the air nozzle above the passenger seat and works by directing a filtered stream of air onto the user's seating area. This air stream forms an invisible air curtain that removes 99.5 percent of unwanted viruses and allergens. One disposable AirRight is good for two flights. They are priced from $7 to $9 each and are available at airport shops and at www.bestproducts mediaguide.info/263/product.htm.

Can a pen be mightier than a foreign-language dictionary or the atlas? The makers of Poster Pens think so. Poster Pens are like the smarty-pants sisters of Bic; inside each one is a short cheat sheet with basic translations for four European languages (one language per pen) or facts for eight separate states (one state per pen). The sheet pulls out like a window shade, revealing foreign words and phrases. Details: (503) 740-6005 or www.posterpens.com.
